How To Succeed Academically at UNLV

Academic Advising
Academic advisors assist students with determining which classes are required for general education and degree requirements and also offer assistance to students with academic challenges. Students should contact the academic advisor for their major to receive instructions on how to proceed. A listing of academic advisors and contact information is available on-line.

Colleges and Departments
UNLV offers more than 150 degree programs. If you have questions or concerns regarding academic matters, you should start with your department office or your College Dean's Office.

Computer Labs
There are 7 large computer labs throughout campus. All computer labs have general software and Internet access and some labs have specialty software common for various majors. Each lab has a staff member available to help you set up your account, answer questions, and help with technical difficulties. In order to use the computer labs, you must be a current student and set up a login. Once your login is created, you can store files on a secure file server and publish web pages. For additional information, you can call (702) 895-0761.

Disability Resource Center
Disability Resource Center (DRC) provides academic accommodations and resources for students with documented disabilities. For additional information, you can call (702) 895-0866.

International Programs
Even though you are just starting UNLV, there are many opportunities for you to participate in a study abroad or exchange program in future semesters. Programs are offered for a semester, summer, or full-year. For additional information, you can call (702) 895-3896.

Lied Library
This new state-of-the-art facility contains 302,000 square feet of research potential and over 200 computers equipped with full Internet access and much more. For additional information, you can call (702) 895-2100.

The Center for Academic Enrichment & Outreach (CAEO)
The tutoring program is designed to assist students, improve academic understanding, and ultimately enhance the students' learning process and knowledge base. All UNLV students are eligible for tutoring as long as there are tutors available for the subject(s) requested. For additional information, you can call (702) 895-4782 .

UNLV Writing Center
The Writing Center is here to help students with all their writing needs. They can help from the brainstorming stage to the drafts to the actual paper. The Writing Center offers four major services to students - face-to-face writing consultations, online writing consultations, a computer lab, and writing workshops. All of these services are free to registered students. The mission for the Writing Center is to help students improve their writing skills, not write papers for students. For additional information, you can call (702) 895-3908
