Infrastructure Services
In an endeavor to provide UNLV campus residents with increased safety measures, Infrastructure Services recently completed a massive upgrade of on-campus security cameras. We replaced outdated equipment with new camera servers that provide archived digital footage. Cameras are located around the campus residence halls and the three computer labs located within. Since "going live" in September 2008, these cameras have already been instrumental in assisting Police Services with solving several on-campus crimes and apprehending suspicious persons.
Applications Development
Applications Development completely redesigned the UNLV calendar webpage. UNLV has many calendars, including academic and registration calendars, that students need in order to keep track of important dates. The new layout is very user friendly, allowing users to view and print calendars up to 2012. We designed this webpage so that calendar updates and changes can be added instantaneously, ensuring that students always have accurate calendars available.
Technical Support Services
We are pleased to announce that Technical Support Services is currently moving many campus software systems and servers from physical servers to a new state-of-the-art virtual server. In the information technology arena, virtual servers are an exciting new technology that increases system reliability while saving time, money, and energy. We look forward to completing this project in 2009 and providing UNLV with the best system reliability available to date.
Campus Card Technical Services
Campus Card Technical Services is currently upgrading self-service Rebelcard machines (where users can make Rebelcard cash deposits and check account balances) to read the new $5 bill. When it was first issued, the new $5 bill did more than simply change its paper currency appearance. It brought forth a need for updated currency readers that can recognize and accept the new design. We are working closely with the Rebelcard office to complete this project as soon as possible for the benefit of the UNLV community.
