UNLV Outdoor Adventures Trip Policies

All participants must be at least 18 years of age, or have parent/guardian signature. Participants are required to attend a pre-trip meeting, and abide by Outdoor Adventures policies detailed in the pre-trip meeting. Participants must complete a liability waiver and a health history form. Payment is due at the time of registration. We do not offer refunds for cancellations. If you need to cancel you may find a replacement to fill your vacancy. There will be no exceptions to the policy. In the event Outdoor Adventures cancels a trip participants will receive a full refund.

Nervous about starting college? Here is the perfect opportunity to make some friends in the beginning of the semester, and soak in the Arizona hot springs; located in a narrow slot canyon above a 20 foot waterfall. You will be camping right off of the Colorado River, after hiking through White Rock Canyon. We will hang out in the hot springs, and get a real taste of the Mojave Desert right before classes start. Your trip leaders will be a great resource to learn about the ins and outs of college life, issues, and what to expect as a UNLV student. This is a great way to secure some friendships and get to know the area surrounding Vegas, so come check it out!

Wheeler Peak Summit Hike - $110

This is a once in a lifetime chance to get to the top of Nevada. Wheeler Peak sits at 13,062 feet and is regarded as the most scenic and spectacular summit in Nevada. Located in Great Basin National Park, the beauty and natural history of this mountain make it worthwhile as we travel through stands of Western Bristlecone Pine, the oldest trees on the planet. This is one summit you don’t want to miss out on!

Accidents happen. If you plan on spending time in the backcountry, be prepared! This Fall Outdoor Adventures is teaming up with Wilderness Medical Training Center to provide students the opportunity to obtain a certification in Wilderness First Aid; a basic level of first aid training for short trips with family, friends, and outdoor groups. You will learn how to prepare for and respond to medical emergencies, environmental hazards, and survival skills to name a few. By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one—and maybe even save a life.

Learn how to canoe and experience the natural phenomenon of thermal hot springs in the desert. Spend three days paddling the Colorado River exploring caves, scrambling through a maze of boulders to soak in hot springs and experience Outdoor Adventures notorious camp food cooking! This weekend’s views will take your breath away- and you’re bound to see some big horn sheep! All abilities are welcome, no experience necessary!

A Red Rock Day Hike You Can Take Your Folks On - $15

Are your parents and other family members coming into town, and want to know what Las Vegas has to offer? Here’s an opportunity to show them the strip from a different perspective. Take your family on a rejuvenating hike to discover a breathtaking view of the Las Vegas strip and valley. Bring them along on an adventure to explore one of the most beautiful and famous natural geologic wonders the Las Vegas Valley. The peaks are dramatic in form with an unbelievable array of color. In contrast to the dry desert valley Red Rock houses a wide variety of desert wildlife, plant life and water. This is a great way to show your family the variety that Vegas can offer.

The Zion Narrows is the premier backpacking experience for those who are ready for a real challenge. This 16 mile hike is not for beginners or those who are claustrophobic. We will wind through narrow canyon walls 2,000 high. Our trail follows the Virgin River and at times we will find ourselves waste deep in water. Walking in the shadow of the Narrow’s soaring walls, sandstone grottos, natural springs, and hanging gardens will be an unforgettable experience.

*This trip is not for beginners. Previous backpacking experience is required.

Halloween Ghost Town

Halloween Ghost Town Night Hike -$25

Imagine yourself walking down a dark, dusty street in an abandoned mining town. Come out with us Halloween night to explore the creepy abandoned town of Nelson, Nevada. Originally established in 1775 by the Spanish, this town became a flourishing gold mine. Nelson is notorious for being a haunted place since its abandonment in 1944. This will be a night hike to remember as your trip leaders recall stories of Nelson’s dark history. As you explore the remnants of this town, try to forget that it’s dark, eerie, and dead silent. Whatever your friends are doing this Halloween, this is where it’s at!

Arizona Hot Springs Day Hike - $25
Easy/Beginner Hike

This day hike is a therapeutic 6 mile round trip trek for hikers of all levels. It winds down a colorful canyon that merges with the Colorado River, and up into two relaxing hot spring pools. Rest your muscles in pools that range from 85 to 120 degrees and take in the gorgeous surroundings of the hike.
