Good news for students!
The Women's Center Re-entry Services (RES) has been searching for alternative scholarships for students to check out.
Our new service, Scholarship Alternatives, will save our students time and frustration searching for scholarships online. The vast majority of these scholarships have very reasonable criteria and requirements. A few have more narrow requirements. So help yourself to what we found.
Various scholarships will be highlighted on a regular basis. The Women's Center, however, does not have the applications for any of the scholarships posted. Applicants must follow the specified instructions to obtain applications. Many applications are available online. We hope this service is of useful and successful so please share the information with other students. Thanks for helping us spread the word. American Association of University Women Local Affiliate Scholarship
The local affiliate of the American Association of University Women is looking for applicants for their scholarships for the 2008-2009 year. Applicants must be junior or senior women at UNLV or Nevada State College.

Samantha Drobkin Scholarship through Student Financial Services
This award is given to students with cancer or who have overcome cancer. Students must be enrolled full-time and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Contact Student Financial Services if you think you may qualify.
The Straightforward Media Scholarship
This Media Scholarship is available to students studying media and communications. The deadlines for applications are:

This fellowship is available to undergraduate and graduate students under the age of 35. You must write an essay on the meaning and significance of economic and personal liberty. Your essay must be 3,000 words or less and address the following topic: The great aim of the struggle for liberty has been equality before the law. Check website for exact date.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure College Scholarship Award:
This scholarship offers college scholarships of up to $10,000 a year over a four-year period. The program assists young adults in their academic pursuits.
Qualifications:
- Have lost a parent to breast cancer.
- Be a high school graduate, a high school student who will graduate by June 2008, or have received the equivalent of a high school diploma.
- Current college students are eligible.
Plan to attend a state-supported college or university in the state where they permanently reside.
- Have a college GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale (if already attending college).
- Be no older than 25 years old by June 2008.
- Be a U.S. citizen, or documented permanent resident of the U.S.
- Never at any time have been subject to any disciplinary action by any institution or entity, including, but not limited to, any educational or law enforcement agency.
Amount: Up to $10,000 a year.
Term: Four years
Important Deadlines: The 2008 Komen College Scholarship is now available online! The deadline for submission is February 1, 2008.
