OISS StaffKristen Young - DirectorKristen Young serves as the Director for OISS and has been at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas since 2000. Kristen has lived in South Korea and Canada and has traveled to many other countries. In addition to overseeing office operations, she advises students and scholars, conducts workshops for international students and scholars, and provides intercultural training for the campus. Students and scholars can make appointments to see Kristen for advising by calling the OISS office. UNLV offices and departments should contact Kristen if they have questions about policy and procedure for international students and scholars.
Jan Keiser - Assistant DirectorJan joined the OISS office in August 2009 as our new Assistant Director. She helps to bring international faculty, researchers, and scholars to UNLV. Jan worked in a similar capacity at Washington State University and Vanderbilt University. She welcomes the university hosting/hiring departments, international faculty, researchers and scholars to contact her for subjects like how to bring international faculty and scholars to the campus, visa and immigration status, and training sessions, etc. Jan is available by appointment or you can email or phone her. Sheri Beyer – Senior International Student AdvisorAloha! Sheri Beyer is the Senior International Student Advisor (ISA) at UNLV. She comes from Honolulu, Hawai'i, and has been at UNLV since 2004. As the Senior ISA, she is the point of contact for international students for major problems with student visa or immigration questions, information about UNLV processes, and assistance with adjustment to life in Las Vegas. Born in South Korea but raised in Minnesota, Sheri completed her undergraduate degree at Hawai'i Pacific University. She has traveled to Korea, England, and Wales. She loves to travel and meet new people, learning history about different countries, and learning new languages. She also enjoys reading, movies, and shopping! Sheri is also the advisor for the Hanoul Korean Student Association. You can make an appointment with Sheri by calling OISS at 895-0143 and/or you can also come to walk-in hours. Richard Yien - Immigration SpecialistRichard joined our office in 2008 as our new Immigration Specialist. He brings with him work experience from the International Offices at UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco, and The Scripps Research Institute. He has studied and worked abroad in Canada, China, and Japan. Richard helps to bring international faculty, researchers, and scholars to UNLV. Appointments can be made with Richard by calling the OISS Office. Contact Information:
Kristie Berthelotte – International Student AdvisorKristie Berthelotte advises prospective and newly admitted F-1 international students about documentation required for issuing I-20s. Contact Kristie with questions about how to get an I-20 if you have submitted an application for admission or have recently been admitted but have not yet registered for classes. Current students can also contact Kristie for any student visa or immigration questions, information about UNLV processes, and assistance with adjustment to life in Las Vegas.
Carrie Scrutchens – Database SpecialistCarrie Scrutchens ensures that OISS maintains accurate student and scholar information so that the university can meet government requirements and so that the students and scholars can receive the services they need from OISS. Doreen Martinez - Administrative Assistant IIIDoreen Martinez is responsible for providing overall office management, operational support, budget management, and assigned special projects and events. Contact Information:
Natalie Shane - Graduate Assistant International Student AdvisorNatalie Shane is the new Graduate Assistant International Student Advisor in the OISS. This is her first year at UNLV and has moved here from Wisconsin. She graduated from Marquette University and is now getting her Masters in Higher Educational Leadership at UNLV (Go Running Rebels!). Natalie has studied in both Rome and London and is eager to study abroad again. She has traveled all around Western Europe, Australia, Mexico and to over half the states in the US. She is excited to start her new life in Las Vegas- trying new things, meeting new friends, and making new memories. Natalie will begin working with international students later in the fall semester, but you can come by the office and meet her anytime.
