UNLV Information and Student Life

UNLV LogoThe University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is a public co-educational urban university established in 1957. Approximately 28,000 students at UNLV currently pursue degrees in over 220 undergraduate and graduate programs. Approximately 1,400 are international students who come from over 77 different countries. The campus is located in the heart of the city, about three kilometers from McCarran International Airport.

Academic instruction at UNLV is based on the lecture-discussion system. Students are expected to attend all class sessions, participate in classroom discussion, take quizzes, develop research papers, and take examinations. If requested by the student, tutors are available at little or no cost to students.

Student Life

As an international student, you are encouraged to become involved in some of the numerous co-curricular activities available on the UNLV campus.

International Students at UNLVUNLV offers many opportunities for students to get involved in leadership development and co-curricular activities. The Division of Student Life offers a wide array of services, programs, and activities that promote and encourage active involvement and participation in campus life. In particular, the Office of Student Diversity Programs & Services offers activities and events specifically to support international students. Various services, conveniences, and amenities are also offered through the new Moyer Student Union which includes restaurants like Starbucks, Panda Express, and more as well as an information desk, social lounges and a convenience store.

Student Activities and Campus-wide Events are planned throughout the year that focus on celebrations and traditions that involve the entire campus community. Festivities such as Welcome Week, Premier UNLV, Homecoming, Unityfest, and Spring Fling provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to actively participate in the life of the campus while working in partnership, celebration, and fun.
