Events and Activities

1. Come to the OISS Office and pick up an OPT application packet.
2. Schedule an OPT appointment with an OISS advisor.
3. Come to the appointment with all of your OPT paperwork completed (in the packet) and a credit card or check.
4. At the appointment, you will apply for OPT on-line.

TAX WORKSHOPS

All international students (even if you didn t work in 2007) are required to turn in Tax forms to the US government by April 15, 2008. NOTE: The process of filing a tax return for nonresident aliens is DIFFERENT than how U.S. citizens or resident aliens file their tax return (Form 1040NR vs 1040).  If you do not know if you are a nonresident alien or resident alien for tax purposes, please contact Debbie Honrath at nraassistance@unlv.edu. For more information visit Non Resident Alien Services (http://controller.unlv.edu/NRA/contactus.htm).  If you are uncertain about your tax residency, we do not recommend that international students use the tax services like Turbo Tax or H&R Block because those services may NOT be familiar with international student tax issues.  The U.S. taxing authority is the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) located at www.irs.gov
