J PROFESSOR / RESEARCHER
FOR SHORT-TERM
CONSULTATIONS OR LECTURES
The J program normally restricts the Professor
or Researcher to employment with the sponsoring UNLV department.
To enable short-term consultations
and/or lectures away from UNLV, the following criteria have been
set by the United States Information Agency in section 514.20(g)
of the
USIA Regulations: Such lectures and consultations must be incidental
to the exchange visitor's primary stated activities (as indicated
on the DS-2019): - they must be directly related to the objectives
of the Exchange Visitor's program;
- they must be incidental to the primary Program activities of
the Exchange Visitor;
- they may not delay the visitor's Program completion date
Procedures for obtaining authorization: The Exchange Visitor shall
present to the Responsible Officer the following: - A
letter from the prospective employer setting forth:
The terms and conditions of the offer - including the duration;
number of hours; field or subject; amount of compensation;
and description
of the activity
- A letter from the visitor's Department Chair/Director recommending
such activity, and explaining how it would enhance the exchange
visitor's program.
PLEASE NOTE: The J visitor for teaching or research
may not be employed in any but an academic capacity. This category
may not
hold a staff
position, and must be paid from academic funding. Once the
above letters are presented to the J Program Responsible
Officer, the authorization will be given in writing (provided
the criteria are
met) after the authorization has been granted, only then
may the employment commence.
