Procedures & Policies

Disability Resource Center (DRC) provides test proctoring services to eligible students with disabilities attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  This service is designed to facilitate required academic adjustments for students and their faculty.

A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

As a shared responsibility, DRC, students and their faculty each have a role to play to insure the service meets the objective of providing students with an academic adjustment (reasonable accommodation).

DRC Responsibilities

  1. Determine if a student is eligible for testing accommodations on the basis of a disability.
  2. Prepare letters of accommodation for students to present to their faculty.
  3. Prepare test scheduling forms for students to present to their faculty
  4. Facilitate test pick up and delivery to and from DRC.
  5. Ensure tests are secure.
  6. Administer tests according to the rules communicated by instructors, with accommodations determined by DRC.

Student Responsibilities

  1. Register with DRC
  2. Present letters of accommodations to faculty
  3. Present test scheduling forms to their faculty for completion.
  4. Return completed test scheduling forms to DRC at least 5 days prior exam.
  5. Follow testing protocol and other rules for using the DRC Test Proctoring Service

 

Faculty Responsibilities

  1. Meet privately with your student to review accommodations and to complete the Test Scheduling form.
  2. Complete the Test Scheduling form.
    1. Review and approve test dates.
    2. Identify the amount of time the class is allowed for the test.
    3. Identify what students may use, if anything.
    4. Choose your pick up and delivery preferences.
  3. Give the completed form to student to deliver to DRC.
  4. Have test ready for pick up the day before the test is to be administered.* or email the test to DRCtesting@unlv.edu
  5. Communicate any changes to the test scheduling form to DRC prior to test date.

 

*This is critical to allow DRC time to manage and effectively administer your test.

FAIRNESS AND NONDISCRIMINATION
DRC will administer all tests according to the rules of the instructor as communicated to the DRC Test Proctoring Services. Instructors are responsible for identifying materials, if any, that a student may use. Accommodations will be applied on the basis of DRC determination. All examinations will be monitored to preclude the possibility of dishonesty.  The DRC Test Proctoring Service does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or sexual orientation in the administration of any tests.


SECURITY
The DRC Test Proctoring Service will maintain security of all tests entrusted to its care. All tests shall be held in a secure, locked facility. No unauthorized person(s) shall have access to the tests. Completed examinations shall be returned to the instructor according to the directions he/she specifies, assuring continued security of all test materials.


CONFLICT OF INTEREST
All personnel of the Disability Resource Center will avoid activities which are, or appear to be improper including (but not limited to): discussing the specifics of any examinations, taking an examination we are entrusted to administer, or coaching or assisting examinees on responding to the questions on any examination. Disability Resource Center personnel have the responsibility for disqualifying themselves from a specific activity when a potential conflict exists.


APPEAL/GRIEVANCE
Disability Resource Center encourages anyone who has a complaint with these policies or services to contact the Director. Individuals who have complaints or conflicts which cannot be resolved internally with the Director will be referred to the DRC grievance procedure.


ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
The Disability Resource Center has a zero tolerance policy on academic dishonesty.  Any instance of cheating on tests or altering of test scheduling forms will be communicated directly to the instructor.  What could happen if you are found responsible for Academic Dishonesty?


Academically:
1. Do the assignment over
2. Get a zero for the assignment
3. Flunk the class (most common) or
4. Removal from college or major


Judicially:
1. Accept the academic sanction
2. Judicial Warning
3. Judicial Probation
4. Letter of Understanding/Reflection Exercise
5. Transcript Notation (future proposal)
6. Participation in Ethical Decision-making Course (future proposal), or
7. Suspension from the institution or NSHE system.
